Jane's Got the WordThe good news from me this year is I finally landed a permanent job at the University of Alaska. During the turmoil over Steve's position, it was a great relief to know we still had medical benefits. I feel fortunate to have a part-time job share in a nice office with nice people. If you are in the K Building on campus, come see me in the School of Education. We had a great party for Mom & Dad's 50th anniversary in June, and it was very special to enjoy a visit from my brother Fred and two of his boys. The year has also been busy volunteering at church, serving on the vestry and planning the bazaar. It was wonderful to meet Bjorn in Las Vegas the end of November. They even got me onto the New York roller coaster- it was fun and I'm never doing it again. Our wish for everyone is to enjoy the holiday season with family and friends. We send our love to all, electronically or otherwise, and shine on in the New Year! From Steve: I got a new job ... kinda. My old company, ARCO, was bought by Phillips Petroleum. My old job, buying, tracking and disposing of computer hardware and software, was combined with network security administration. More succinctly, three jobs were made one. So, I have had the dubious pleasure of getting more work than I can possibly do and being required to learn every step necessary to do the network security as the work comes in. In addition, 49 people in our department have left due to cuts and taken their friendship and knowledge. Very frustrating. The bright side is that Phillips is a good company and they pay well. So, the little imaginary angel that sits on my shoulder keeps telling me to quit whining. Well... I'm about to name that little angel on my shoulder "Chip". My website, the Coach's Notebook has been a huge success. 2,000 visitors or more come through every day. Many write letters to ask questions about coaching or just to say thanks. Sometimes I feel like this is the best thing I have ever done in sports. I am in awe of how many people you can reach through the internet. Its like bringing some aspect of basketball to thousands of young players through their coaches who use the site. Bjorn and I drove to Idaho. What a fun trip! We stopped and played on outdoor hoops all through Canada. I'm proud of our young man. Read about the whole trip and our quest to find a true French Canadien by clicking here. |
