Thanks
to Mom and Dad, we had a wonderful couple days at the Talkeetna Lodge.
We drove up there with faith that the weather would be fine ... and
faith was about all we had to go on because it was cloudy as could be.
Anyway, we arrived at this beautiful lodge and enjoyed a fine 3 course meal (king crab, salmon bisque and THEN the main course!). |

| About 9PM, the sky started clearing and we watched the sun slowly (very slowly) set behind Mt Foraker and Mt McKinley. The picture on the right was taken at midnight, when we finally retired (I like the sound of that word). We watched all this from a huge deck on the top floor of the hotel. The hotel was a very convenient source of drinks and appetizers. It was fun eavesdropping on the tourists. | ||

Of course, half the fun of any trip in Alaska is going there in the Miata. We had a perfect drive back to Anchorage on the Old Glenn Highway. Here, we stopped to admire Pioneer Peak. If I had any sense, I would have found a spot without telephone wires for the picture. But, you can't have everything. | |

![]() Jane take a breather from the hike deep into the Alaskan wilderness where we found this aged, trapper's cache. It was loaded with bottles of 1934 cabernet (which we drank), and dried pemmican jerky (which we buried). |
